Combat practice. Really, it was practice sheilding, but for names sake it was combat. This was Lysurus' favorite class, one of them at least. It wasn't the fighting he liked as much as how it let a person get to know someone. It happened to be how he made his first good friend, a stone mage named Carver.
Thats what his nick-name was, at least. No one really knew his name. Carver was an excelent stone carver, hence the name; however, he seriosly lacked battle skill. He wanted to fight, but because of his power he was only in Rusticus academy.
Lysurus and Carver were a perfect match for combat because Carver could throw anything, and one time everything, he could at Lysurus, and Lysurus could block, dodge, deflect, and on occasion, throw things litterally right back at Carver. One was perfecting his attack, the other his defense.
"Lets see if you can scratch me today, Carver. Last time you actually got a rock by my defense, lets see if you've improved!"
"I'm going to make you regret those words Lys'," he called back using his favorite nick-name for his friend.
"Ohh, I'm so scared. I'm just shaking in my boots." Lysurus, who didn't actually wear shoes at all, was caught off gaurd by his friend making his move, fortunatly he had made earlyer preperations. Carver took a step forward ready to send several large rocks twards Lysurus, and tripped on a very inconspicuose and well placed vine. The rocks on the ground still shot forward twards Lysurus, but he was ready for this. Magic isn't the only thing I can do,, he thought as he jumped over the rocks that weren't able to get off the ground to hit him. "Looks like I misjudged, I thought you would have fallen sooner and I wouldn't have to dodge your pet rocks. It would have been much cooler if I had taken you down without even moving very much."
"What happened to no magic before the battle!?"
"What happened to not attacking your opponent untill their ready?" he threw back.
"I guess you've got me there. I was so sure I'd get you this time.
"You almost did, but forget it for now, we need to get to our animal care class before we're late again."
"I swear thats your favorite class, it's the only one that you actually care about being on time for.
"I guess you could say it's one of my favorites," he said, helping his friend of the training room floor.
Herblore, his best class. I'll give you three guesses why and a hint, he is a plant mage. Lysurus didn't truely care for it though, he already knew enough, or at least thought he did. The class was paired up today, they were studying the affects of sertain herbs they could use to boost their magic. He was paired with a fire mage, rare for a school based around agriculture. He liked him though because he was quite, Lysurus liked quite people, they tended to not annoy him.
"So black thorn was a seditive, right?"
"No, it boosts the power of curses and offensive magic." Who forgets that, THORN clearly means attack. Lysurus was improving on how bluntly, and sometimes hurtfully, honest he was with people. Now all he did was think it instead of saying it.
"Well you didn't have to be harsh about it." I said "Improving" right? Did I forget to say, not by much.
"Oh, sorry. I didn't mean it to come out that way," nice recovery, "Do you remember what sage and hazel do?"
"They boost defense, right?"
"Got it!" I guess he isn't that bad.
"Ok, I want one of you to tell me what black thorn does," the students teacher asked. Well, that question was well timed. I guess I'll let my new "friend" here answer. When the fire mage didn't raise his hand, and no one else did either, Lysurus jumped in, "It's used to boost attacks and curses."
"Very good, you seem to have been the only one who knew that. Class, you could all learn from this Lysurus." Oh great, more reason for the class to just 'love' me more than they already do. He did feel good proving just a little bit that he was the best in the class, a little ego boost never hurt.
After being assigned another out of class project, this one to grow some other herb in their already over crowded gardens, Lysurus decided to ask the fire mage why he didn't answer the question, and possibly his name too.
"Hey, what happened back there? I just gave you the answer, why didn't you answer it?"
"I wouldn't have felt 'right' taking credit for someone elses knowledge." Understandable. "I don't think I ever told you my name, it's Matthew, Matt for short
"Thats an odd name." Oops, didn't mean to let that one slip out. "I mean, thats an unusual name for this school." He bought that, right?
"Yea, I would say it is. I'm not from around here, I actually just transfered in.
"Really, I should show you around sometime." Maybe fight too, I would love to practice against a fire mage, "Unfortunatly not now, I got quite a few classes this year. I'll see you later. With that he ran off not even bothering with waiting for a response. "I'd appriciate that, thanks!" Matt called down the all. Lysurus barely heard it as he flew around the corner twards Solumian, or Solumnian. He still wasn't sure, but he thought it was the latter of the two.
